People used to ask me why I didn’t use phpBB on certain website(s) I program and/or administer. A couple of months ago, that whole vulnerability made news, and I pointed to it as an example.
Plus, PHP is convoluted/inconvenient beyond being useful. There are better (safer) ways to interface with an SQL back end.
Just saying. It’s web-based Darwinism at its best.

And you closed comments on the nutjob follow-up?
I was about to rail–presumptuously unfettered–against the neoconservative mindset and that crazy mofo in particular. I was also going to call him a tool again. Sorry, JF… I’m a creature of habit.

What do you use in place of PHPBB, Gary? I’d prefer vBB but then again - no one posts on forums.boltsmag.com anyway and vBB is too much of an investment for a small message board like that.

JF: Short answer, I tend to code my s**t from the ground up using Python and various Python-based web application servers. Doing that is not as convenient as some out-of-the-box apps, but it ultimately saves me a lot of time and worry. Check your email for more info.
