Jay Feaster met with the agents of Martin St. Louis, Dan Boyle, and Nik Khabibluin yesterday. Jay painted the talks as “positive” but as just that — talks. Preliminary stuff.
On a sidenote, also in the linked article, Erik Erlendsson points out that junior goalies Jonathan Boutin and Gerard Coleman, along with Zbynek Hrdel, need to be signed by Friday or the players will re-enter the draft.

It’s just rumor, but Rotowire claims that Marty is looking at a longer term deal around $4 mil a year. If that’s true, longevity and hometown discount must mean more than the almighty dollar.
You’re right, Mike…
Marty had lobbied the NCAA over Tampa’s final four bid and I had seen some quotes from St. Louis with regards to how much he enjoys Tampa Bay.
Stark contrast to the bullshit Larry Brooks has been spewing about Marty looking to join the Rangers.
Wouldn’t it be a kick in the ass if Marty, Vinny et al accepted longer term deals at lower per-year salaries to give Feaster the room to sign Khabibulin for at least one more season? I’m not expecting anything like that, but it would be a poke in the eye to all the money-grubbin’ players out there who expect to make $7mil per year.
Y’know… like Nik.
