What are some of the most stupid sports arguments that come up again and again? I’m looking for input, suggestions and examples of usage from readers.
The one that immediately comes to mind is, “Hey, give the guy a break! It’s a tough job, lets see you do it!” That (paraphrased) statement has been used against me in discussions about sports executives and players in all sports… And yet it seems to be an attempt to jsut forgoe debate. “I can’t really come up with a counter point, I jsut don’t like you pissing on my guy.”
There have to be more out there. Post one up on the comments if you can think of one.

Here’s one that always manages to irk me:
The top NCAA team, football or basketball, being good enough to beat the worst NFL/NBA team. Especially stupid because it exposes the person advancing that argument as being completely devoid of any real sports acumen. Grownups understand that even the sorriest NFL/NBA team is stacked with the equivalent of college all-stars, and will wipe the floor with a school team. The college and pro games are completely different animals by virtue of the quantum leap in abundance of talent from college to pro.
Proof enough: The Chicago Bears used to play an exhibition against a college all-star team right up through the mid-70s. From the 1960s on, the Bears would destroy the college team, regardless of how good or bad the Chicago team was in NFL play.
So the next time some idiot insists that today’s USC Trojans could cream the Arizona Cardinals, tell him to get real.
“You aren’t qualified to have an opinion because you’ve never played the game.”
Good one, guys. That was a good one Brandon… Made me think of another one…
ANYONE who takes someone age and makes it part of the argument… I’ve had young teens floor me with their knowledge of respected sports before - totally open minded and pretty spot on in every light and they’ve bgeen ridiculed by older fans specifically because of their age which is unjust…
