Being hearing impaired for8 years this month, I’ve grown accustomed to watching Lightning hockey without Play-by-play or color commentary from Bobby Taylor… Or perhaps one interview or another by Paul Kennedy.
Tonight, it seems I’m finally being re-introduced to what people are talking about during the game…. Closed Captioning is now present on the broadcast…

most excellent….
Great news! It’s long overdue.
Did you know that Stan Mikita runs a hockey school for the hearing impaired? In fact there is a whole organization just for hearing impaired hockey players. They also have a hearing impaired USA hockey team that plays in the Deaflympics every four years. The next Deflympics will take place in 2007. You can find out more about Mikita’s school and the AHIHA at http://www.AHIHA.ORG.
For some reason the link isn’t working. But type it in as http://WWW.AHIHA.ORG and it should work. It is definitely interesting reading.
