That was a playoff calibre game and sort of diappointing if it’s foreshadowing…

  2. Hinch Says:

From a standings standpoint, we played the Canes to a standstill.

From my knowledge of what the Lightning are really capable of, it sucked.

From the standpoint of the stakes involved, the game was truly awful.

    Take your pick.

  3. John F. Says:

that’s how it’s been for most of the season Hinch.

You’ll hear people applauding the Lightning for reaching 40 wins, but how many losses? You heard Chief talk about having 3 30-goal scorers on the team… Then you get to think about how streaky those guys played. John Grahame has a ton of Lightning wins but streaky defines him too.

    They’ve been all-or-nothing this year too much….

  4. Gary Says:

    I apologize for the reiteration.

If the Caps can solve and/or bitchslap the Canes…

Where are our defending Stanley Cup Champion Tampa Bay Lightning?

It’s a sad state of affairs when the eighth spot in the East is theirs to lose.

I’m not giving up faith… I just haven’t had reason to *have* faith in the Lightning much recently.

93 posts in the open thread tonite! Awesome!

Oil change on the Subaru tommorow at 8 AM, honey do’s the rest of the day, suit up at about 6 PM, walk over to the Forum at a quarter after. Drink beer, holler. Repeat as necessary.

    Hope it’s a loud crowd.

I’d just like to mention that either the NHL sold exclusive local rights for this game to Bright House, or DirecTV is lying to me. Either way, I intend to get to the bottom of why I had to watch this game at Beef O’Brady’s.

I refuse to sit by and let hockey go the way of MLB/NBA and even NFL in the way they casually blackout away games to the highest bidder. Anyone who has directv who could not view this game, I encourage you to email be at beachthe at gmail dot com.

  7. John F. Says:

hinch, are you living in channelside?

jrf — I’d even go so far as to talk to Sun Sports about this. sunsportstv.com actually answers emails and complaints / comments on the Lightning forum on the site. That’s sad and ridiculous if local rights were bought out. Let alone unfair.

Hi guys–my PC has been acting up. Anyway, I say you go, Hinch, and I hope you holler real loud under the influence of some tasty beer. I’m not sure how I feel about tonight’s game. Of coure i’m disappointed, and we did have opportunities. Gerber played a terrific game, unfortunately. It was shocking to see “the Tampa trinity” go for nil in the shootout. They all had Gerber beat. Maybe they were just beat from so much ice time and were off on their shots. Maybe the pressure was too much. But at least I did see us play our game from time to time–a welcome change from recent games.

John F., thanks for the suggestion.

I have sent a message to Directv in order to get proof from them first that the rights were sold. After spending 20 minutes on the phone with their customer service, I still don’t believe the NHL sold the rights. Directv was helpful, but couldn’t give me specifics about this game. I just don’t see how selling away game rights benefits anyone in the long term and I’ve never seen it happen before in the NHL.

I do plan on following through with this, as if there is any fan base a league should not play games with like this, it’s hockey fans. Especially bloggers.

The Lightning are not the Capitals.

  11. Gary Says:

Acid Queen: You’re right… the Lightning actually *have* some defense (although sometimes that point can be argued) and have more than one forward who can score goals.

I was at the game last night and I think it turned out just fine except a for a few mistakes. There were no fluke goals during it and many of the goals were really pretty. I did notice the Lightning didn’t appear to have as much energy as Carolina. By that I mean alot slower during the warm up, slow skates in the game and improperly handled pucks. The was shot of the zone six or seven times during their penalties. Another problem was the some of the pointless penalties they took and Carolina converted on it.
