Black it Out

Monday, April 24th, 2006

When does Lightning show up best? In the dark…

Here’s a request for all fans attending the Ottawa series at Times Palace: wear black. That’s right, black (or something extra dark that is close to black).

It’s a show of pride, a show of support and a show of solidarity. Wear the Lightning’s home colors to the game. You don’t need the Lightning to hand out a t-shirt for you to show support.

Usually it’s the Lightning telling fans what to do… But the franchise itself can’t start every tradition. It’s up to the fans.

Better dust this off

Just in case you’re coming to town or already in town from Ottawa for the next 2 games, here’s Witty Librarian’s Skeward Visitors Guide.

“I mean, Hello?!”

Ron Wilson gives another example of the dysfunctional rule enforcement in the NHL Playoffs. This quote was coming off San Jose’s win versus Nashville last night (hat tip to Eric at Off Wing):

“Hey, they’re calling penalties as advertised,” San Jose coach Ron Wilson said. “Everyone’s still shocked, `Why are they calling penalties in the playoffs?’ They’re supposed to because they want to work, and Gary Bettman was here so, hello!

“I mean it doesn’t take a rocket scientist or even a sports writer to figure that one out.”

So why does the crew calling the Ottawa/Tampa Bay game still have jobs?
