Lightning are 6-1 all time in Game 3’s of playoff series. The lone loss was suffered against Calgary.
Count me in. Due to family health reasons, we didn’t pick up our playoff tix options, so I’ll be here for the whole run.
Discussion at work today centered on the Lightning’s ability to go all out for a whole game in a critical situation. The consensus is that they *could* do that in 2004, and haven’t really showed much of that this season. Tonight will prove or disprove that theory. Personally, I think they will take this game.
All we need now is Marsha and her blinking blue necklace.
Needless to say, Go Bolts!
Wade Redden is back for the Sens. We’ll see how much of a difference that brings to their game.
It’s go time!
I wonder if Tortorella puts Richards out with Afanaenkov and St. Louis again?
OT: Voted in your poll on the SO. I hated it at first, but it *did* grow on me. WHen I saw the whole Forum stand up and scream for every attempt, it occured me that it maybe wasn’t so bad.
Plus it got me home to bed on time.
John, who’s starting in goal? I haven’t seen anything yet.
I know a lot of people who still don’t like it.
What really made it bad at first was the fact players weren’t trying that hard. The Lightning especially. I can recall guys just going out there and taking shots and skating off. “Big flippin’ deal…” We’d easily piss away 2 points…
It’s gotta be Grahame. Fits Torts MO. I would have said it myself if I had heard during pre-game. Alas, Paul Kennedy let Brian Bradley ramble too much and so on and so forth. It wasn’t clear.
Re: The SO: I still say that it isn’t hockey, which is, after all, a team sport. But if the fans react positively, which they really, REALLY do, then I can live with it.
Tampa eventually got the hang of it, and hoovered up some OT points. I expect to see a shoot out coach on rosters at some point in the future on NHL teams.
Games on!
More than likely Hinch. After all, some teams were going with their backup goalies who were shoot out specialists.
Hey guys.
Hinch: I agree w/r/t the SO - it takes away the team aspect of the game, and focuses only on the talents of a few. I do, however, like the fact that none of the games end in ties.
Let’s go Bolts!
Howdy, Gary!
Wow. A penalty.
Wow, this is a sucky power play.
I feel like I’m being redundant.
I am surprised they actually called a penalty
There’s gonna be a lot of this kind of stuff, I ’spect.
Score, OS.
Why are they blowing the goal horn when it was the stupid Senators who scored?
Have I mentioned that I hate Zdeno Chara? And now, Havlat.
Shit
Havlat’s like Richards evil twin… That’s what he LOOKS like at least
scrrrrrrrrrrrrum!!!
Heh! WDAE left the action after the stoppage, and SUN kept on it. Good on ‘em.
I’m trying to guess WTF happened because the camera jumped around.
Taylor wa into it real good,
It was retaliation for crashing into Grahame
Grahme shoved back at Neil…first, really. Good to see. I guess Neil’s thing is to hit the goalie after the save.
Holy moly. I missed most of the rough-and-tumble cuz I was outside smoking… but I did see the dude run up on Grahame. Good to see our boys getting their hands dirty… although I don’t know if going short-handed is the best of ideas.
Stupid Analogy of the Year award for Bobby Taylor: “I thought Comedy Central Came on at 11 at night?!”
FUCK FUCK - again with the horn?
WTF — Ottawa powerplay?
2-0
PP score. Fucking hell…and I haven’t figured out who’s on. Someone got sent to the locker room, too…
Bad ice. Have you ntoiced everyone losing their skates?
Neil wasn’t sent to the lockeroom. He just went to the bench.
Modin was mic’ed and he lost his mic –
on a non-called interference from Emery and Mike Fisher. 8-|
Man…Redden adds a lot to the Sens.
Oh, crap. Now what?
Non call boarding
WTF? The Bolts are getting smoked.
This is BULLSHIT with the non calls.
I guess we’ll see if the Lightning have the necessary sack now.
Guess they had to call that one.
I want fucking Colin Campbell’s head on a stick. Bettman can go up with him. This isn’t hockey — it’s something that resembles hockey.
I hate no-rules games.
Jesus. Concentration, fellas.
The boys look demoralized.
anyone expect bronx cheering going into intermission?
Chara penalty! What a dick!
Another PP
Extended five on three now
Now can we do anything with a five-on-three?
We obviously can’t do shit even-handed.
… bronx cheering indeed
Poobina goal.
Need *three* more.
FINALLY
Still on the powerplay with Redden sitting. *Do something*.
Missed it. But anyway…
SOOOORE!
Is it safe to say Wade Redden is the difference maker?
John, I’m gonna go out on a limb and say yes.
Back from my kid’s ball game in time to see one of my guys *K*ubina get us on the board and make a nice block. And Hinch, I got my necklace on. Let’s hope we bring our A-game into the 2nd and 3rd. Glad our crowd isn’t wussy like Ottawa’s when we were smokin’ them.
I’ve always wondered what happens in the locker room during intermissions with the Lightning. I think Torts chooses his spots to rant, or just leave ‘em alone. I mean, the players know what they need to do.
But if I was Torts, I’d be tossing multiple f-bombs at a very high sound level right about now.
So what did you guys think is our biggest problem so far? I only got to see the last 4 mins of the 1st, and it looked like even on the 5 on 3 there were more Senators out there than Bolts. What gives? Or who isn’t giving enough?
Our biggest problem now is the same problem the Senators are facing: There aren’t any standard rules out on ice. One hting can get called and then ignored the rest fo the game.
I’m sorry I’m ranting about this — but at least I am consistant, unlike that asshole Kerry Frazer and his boss.
We need to be resilent — the chips are down but we are most certainly not out (last nights games are proof of that). We need to establish ourselves in the zone and use discipline while being physical.
Dunno, Marsha. Standard stuff…the Bolts aren’t giving 100%? Hard to say. Maybe they think they are. The Sens are just a very good hockey team? They are. Can the Bolts man-up and regain dominance? Yes. They’re good enough. Will they? I dunno.
There! Solved!
It’s a well documented fact the Frasier hates the Lightning. And so I hate Frasier. I have no idea how he maintains his position.
Maybe it’s the hair.
they also need to be better with the puck. Too many times I’ve seen passes go into the neutral zone instead of their intended target, or Ottawa intercept the pass. It hurts every facet of offense (and most certainly defense as well) when you can’t simply move the puck.
Fraser. No I. Don’t dump on Kelsey Grammar’s former character.
And Emory is having a career game. Of course.
I wouldn’t say that. We’ve put less shots on him than we should have by now.
Dang! I *love* Frasier! Fraser, I meant. Kelsey Grammer is balding, anyway.
Son of a bitch.
…
Well… one of the problems, Marsha, is the mistakes on defense… maybe not enough moxie from the Dmen?
Oh, and Grahame is getting hung out to dry… and is sucking.
I’ve seen this team before.
Sarich is doing us no favors.
PP
good couple of seconds on the PP. Seconds is not an entire PP though.
We fell apart during this now.
They have to double team Chara to lay anything on him.
And I might as well say it while we have the commercial break:
Thanks for being here at Boltsmag. Do me a favor if you get a chance and clicky on the google ad on the right? Once? Twixt? Fifty five times? The more the merrier. Thanks
I have made a Chara voodoo doll out of an empty beer can and some twine. I am currently jabbing at it furiously with the tip of a ball point pen.
So can some of our boys get the bright idea that one can charge the net on the PP? I weary of seeing all these outside shots, then an opponent gets the puck, then we have to rush down and block a breakaway. I say stuff it down Emery’s throat so he passes rubber.
Fuck me gently.
Burke is getting ready.
*sigh*
Grahame just threw his stick as he walked down the tunnel to the locker room. At least he used it for *something* tonight.
The season in a nutshell, right there. Bad passing, poor ice awareness, non-physical play, opponent scores.
I’m fucking pissed off.
Oy. I just realized that this game is *just now* halfway over. I may have to find something on the Discovery channel.
Must resist thought. must resist. cannot. This is looking like last nite’s Canes-Habs matchup.
OK, I say the Lightning tie it before the end of regulation.
Completely OT: John, is there any way to delete posts?
Craig takes a puck in the grill. Refs continue play. Why?
Good shift. Is this the fourth line?
Refs certified motherfuckers, that’s why.
Pardon teh course language. And yes, hinch, there are ways to delete comments/posts
Chara expected play stopped.
This is BULLSHIT.
Craig back on the bench.
There’s gotta be a crosscheck call on whoever hit Fedotenko.
Neil needs to get tossed.
Charging the call. Neil flicks off the fans — Bryan Murray is pissed at him.
OLN dudes just said someone on the Sens pointed down the ice at Burke… as if to say “you’re gonna’ get it next” in retaliation for running Emery (although I don’t think Feds ran him). Mofo should get a game misconduct for that type of behavior.
A pet peeve of mine: A powerplay split between two periods.
I do not understand this at all. Is this game fixed? Why isn’t Neil out of the game?
I don’t get it either. He’s sent off and then comes back…
This is complete and utter bullshit. Of course he would have had to have been given a game misconduct or a couple of them to get thrown out of the game and we ALL know that Fraser and co aren’t calling shit tonight.
Yeah, Neil is a goon and shoulda been ejected. Remember when Richards was rejected on a northeast road trip for cussing the ref after a bad call? Neil makes the game look bad. Why market this “new NHL” and let him stink up da joint. I hope Craig is ok.
John/Hinch: Do you think if all the infractions were called that it’d affect the outcome of the game? The Sens only have one powerplay goal so far (on their only PP?), and the Bolts are only 1-for-8 on the PP. Those stats are from Yahoo.
But, really, shitty officiating aside… it doesn’t look like the Bolts are trying as hard as the Sens. Or maybe they’re just getting outplayed during those important moments that make things happen.
Just speculation… but I’m not at all impressed w/ the way the Lightning have looked on the ice tonight.
OK, I’m banking on the fact that this is the playoffs, and this is a playoff Lightning team.
Everthing changes in the playoffs.
That’s all I’m sayin’.
I don’t know if I can watch any more of this, but will tune in Thursday in hopes of seeing the boys *really* be back in town. Not worth staying up late to finish up some work for what I’ve seen thus far. Will leave on blue necklace in case it does any good–will try a different flash speed.
Gary, you’re right. This isn’t the Sunday Lightning team. The no-calls don’t help, but they’re not game changers.
It also isn’t the Sunday Lightning team as far as play goes, either. But refs doing their jobs wouldn’t hurt us much.
Scooooore!!!
The outcome of the game would be different because we’d be watching hockey.
The Sens might kill us worse in a regulation game where order was maintained by the officials… I really don’t mind that (that’s right, I wouldn’t mind it) in part because the game would be following the rules. Enforcing the rules. The better team would truly win and assclowns like Chris Neil wouldn’t be a factor. The skill of Martin Havlat would be accentuated, or Dany Heatly’s machismo. Martin St. Louis’ deftness or Brad Richards total game…
Instead, the officials are grabbing the spotlight by trying not to do anything.
5-2 now.
Three to go. Four would be nice.
I missed the 2nd goal (smoking again) and Erin’s watching House. I don’t have much of a case to argue otherwise.
Neil is a pussy. Sorry for the language. Cost us Dinger. Hope he got a good lick in.
House is being DVR’d.
WTF happened? Seven minutes of powerplay?
Holy mother of the baby jeebus… another penalty against the Bolts?
Dingman vs. Neil
Neil turtled!
From bad to worse.
(insert the worst profanity you’ve ever heard in this space)
This is some seriously painful shit.
Loss-Win-Loss-Win-Loss-Win.
Hrm… that seems a bit familiar.
I’ve been writing my blog post. Sorry for the silence
I have no words… other than… primary assist to Darryl Sydor.
Well. I’ve seen enough.
Nite! See ya’ll Thursday!
Thursday it is. I’m bailing, too.
All right guys. Understandable.
GOal, Paul Ranger.
PP coming up.
7-4. PPG
Damn, why did I watch more! What a dingbat move by Dingman, just go ahead and give away any remote chance of pushing the game to OT. I’m with John–I wanna see some hockey. Oh, must note that *K*ubina just scored . . . again. Oh, and John–I actually bid on something off your ads last game. Check ya Thursday.
I’m surprised.
They gave Poobina’s first goal to Party Marty.
Ocho. Que lastima.
Dios mio.
Again was at the game last night. The Sens were really on & the Bolts off. Neil definitely should have been out, cross checking, but mostly unsportsmanlike conduct. Flicked us off & taunting Burke. No class at all. Officiating was horrible. Craig hurt & no official time out. Something definitely has to be done about the officiating. It’s getting to be a joke. (The Chief) I agree, I wouldn’t mind losing if the refs called the game right. On to Thursday…
