Hi guys. All this press about Grahame has got me thinking that it’s not just his performance that has made him a lightning rod this season–and especially postseason. I think his “head case” image is symbolic of the whole team, including Torts (who might benefit from a mild sedative once in a while). Most recent coverage of the Bolts discusses their emotions more than their skills. Brad Richards seems steady, though, and I hope he rubs off on the other guys. I’m also hoping to see some Lightning hockey for at least part of tonite’s game. We got skills, and I wanna see the beautiful game.
Previous reports to the contrary, I’m not dead (or not a fan). Anyway, after an afternoon visit to Four Green Fields and several crisp Harps, I’m ready to do this thing.
As Marsha (or is it Cam?) says, the emotional aspect is all that matters with this Lightning team. Are they pumped? Or are they just going thru the motions?
You have to wonder what this series would have looked like had the goaltending on both sides been absolutely equal.
The other big factor is guys like Redden and Chara on the Senators blueline. I don’t know how the Lightning hope to cope with a defence core as stacked as that. Winning three in a row, including two in Ottawa, will be near impossible.
Howdy, James. Yes, the Sens are a spectaculary talented team, and Redden and Chara are a joy to watch. But, dragging your goaltender supposition along for the ride, the Lightning have the talent to stay with them. They really do. That’s what’s so hard for us Bolts fans…the knowledge that the team *can* win this series, even now. Will they? I dunno. It seems unlikely at this point. But stranger things have happened in hockey.
The 2003-04 Bolts have the talent to beat the Sens and the Lightning showed us that team only once during the series.
Between defensive lapses, poor special teams play and goaltending, most Lightning fans have seen what they expected from the get-go from the Bolts: not much.
John: Yeah, it was just an abrupt change for such an old web luddite like me.
I can’t stand listening to Joe Beninati when he does the Caps broadcasts with Craig Laughlin (who is an idiot along the lines of the Chief). Who’s doing play-by-play for OLN tonight? Fuckin’ Joe Beninati.
Gary, I’ve seen several games this year via OLN. My biggest complaint is the camera work, which looks like the crew is still figuring out how to shoot hockey games.
I’d never thought I’d say this, but thank god for FSN/Sun.
Hey guys, I’ll spank Kubi later. I liked that adrenaline rush off the opening face-off, even though no score from it. I like Artoo and Ranger’s effort. I like my beer & sausage, too. Hopefully I’ll see more I like soon . . .
DIdja see the look on the guys face wearin’ the Bolts jersey in the stands? I feel his pain. But at least I am watching the game. The Acid Queen hasn’t been able to watch the last 2 Canes games and has banned herself from watching any more of that series. I’m in for the duration of our run.
What were those signs held up against the plexi at the end of the period? One was about Boyle, and one appeared to say “St. Louis I’m Pregnant” or something like that. WTF? Richie is a stud. Burkie has elastic limbs.
They haven’t been intrusive, the officials. The players haven’t done much to earn calls… There have been a few that have caught my eye but nothing earth shattering that would change the pace of the game or the emotion of the game.
Bolts are down and not out - Torts needs to drive that home. That and “Cover Martin Havlat on the PK!!”
Just watching an early April clip of Don Cherry rambling incoherently about the unselfish play of “a French guy, Vincent Lecavalier” getting redder by the minute. Ah, puck drop!
Ok, so I just saw us dump it down ice when we were *not* making a line change. What is it with our guys going into PK mode at any given moment? How bout that Artoo, though!
Note to all NHL television producers: DO NOT EVER use the coveted Pulitzer-quality close-up camera shots. Ever. If I wanted to see a shot of the back of a defenseman’s helmet during a critical period, I’d but tickets, go to the game, and watch through an empty paper towel tube.
Basically asleep. Nice shorthanded pressure by the Bolts, but they only have a minute and a half to work out the kinks and get a goal. Burke has been pretty good.
Fucking six on four and they sit around with their thumbs up their asses waiting for a perfect shot when just shoving it up in front may have gone in ugly.
Fitting finale, though… nothing but frustration - everything you’d expect from the Lightning throughout the season.
Well that’s a wrap, and at least we made ‘em work harder for it this game. Hope all of our boys going down the line shaking hands told Emery how nice it would be to live in Hockey Bay in a beach condo.
Night all.
There’s a lot on the downside. Potential unrealized.
I guess the upside of it all is the bitterness of the off season that’s going to overwhelm some of the guys. Being outplayed, outscored and outclassed as they had this series will light a fire.
Lets go out and get some Defensemen and a truly #1 Goalie. Artoo should be playing more next year along with Ranger and Craiger. We need to get deep on the bench. Anyone know about the kid Gerald Coleman? Is he gonna be any good? Thanks to the Bolts for trying - tough season. I’ll be at the games next year - section 301. GO BOLTS
P.S.
(I hate the Sens - I hope they don’t win the cup)
Lets Go Habs

I reckon we’ll find out right quick.
April 29th, 2006 at 5:24 pm
‘Tis Marsha indeedy, Hinch, and you have good taste in beer.
April 29th, 2006 at 6:03 pm
Hi guys. I a officially on watch — Pizza man cometh probably during the first.
April 29th, 2006 at 6:12 pm

April 29th, 2006 at 7:05 pm
Uh oh. Here we go.
April 29th, 2006 at 7:08 pm
Hi Gary. Did you end up finding the last open thread?
April 29th, 2006 at 7:11 pm
Affy choked on the open net
April 29th, 2006 at 7:12 pm
Good stop by Burke. Now let us begin.
April 29th, 2006 at 7:13 pm
John: Yeah, it was just an abrupt change for such an old web luddite like me.
I can’t stand listening to Joe Beninati when he does the Caps broadcasts with Craig Laughlin (who is an idiot along the lines of the Chief). Who’s doing play-by-play for OLN tonight? Fuckin’ Joe Beninati.
Burke’s looking solid so far.
April 29th, 2006 at 7:17 pm
Are you guys forced to watch the OLN broadcast? Or Sunsports?
I will have to fight the incessant urge to bitch about Beninati in this forum.
April 29th, 2006 at 7:19 pm
We got Sun Sports, Gary
April 29th, 2006 at 7:19 pm
PP Lightning.
April 29th, 2006 at 7:21 pm
I’m wondering if we’ll see the Sens affected like we saw them in Game 2 — missing one of the D regulars?
It’s possible… Not quite probable but possible
April 29th, 2006 at 7:22 pm
Gary, I’ve seen several games this year via OLN. My biggest complaint is the camera work, which looks like the crew is still figuring out how to shoot hockey games.
I’d never thought I’d say this, but thank god for FSN/Sun.
April 29th, 2006 at 7:23 pm
Going nowhere on this one
April 29th, 2006 at 7:24 pm
P…Kubina with a penalty.
April 29th, 2006 at 7:25 pm
Sorry Marsha. It’s Poobina for this game, too.
April 29th, 2006 at 7:26 pm
Paul Ranger showed up tonight. Who else?
April 29th, 2006 at 7:27 pm
Artoo destroy.
April 29th, 2006 at 7:28 pm
Rob DiMaio is playing tonight.
April 29th, 2006 at 7:28 pm
4th line! Good job.
April 29th, 2006 at 7:29 pm
Robbie can be a f’n mad man out there. I wish he had been playing all series.
April 29th, 2006 at 7:30 pm
Hey guys, I’ll spank Kubi later. I liked that adrenaline rush off the opening face-off, even though no score from it. I like Artoo and Ranger’s effort. I like my beer & sausage, too. Hopefully I’ll see more I like soon . . .
April 29th, 2006 at 7:31 pm
Saw Robbie score a goal against the Bruins my first time at the Forum.
April 29th, 2006 at 7:31 pm
Shit.
April 29th, 2006 at 7:31 pm
1-0 sens. Nice play
April 29th, 2006 at 7:32 pm
Man. Beautiful. Sens score on a nice even strenghth play.
April 29th, 2006 at 7:33 pm
First time this series I’ve seen any good work along the blue line - Fedotenko and Ranger.
April 29th, 2006 at 7:33 pm
Another Sens PP.
April 29th, 2006 at 7:33 pm
Well, nice PK, except for the 5 on 3 part.
April 29th, 2006 at 7:34 pm
Oops, lost track. 4-5 PK.
April 29th, 2006 at 7:35 pm
Left out to dry on that one….
April 29th, 2006 at 7:36 pm
Shit! Shit! Burke made the initial stop, but stood up too soon.
April 29th, 2006 at 7:36 pm
Nice bounce. Typical.
April 29th, 2006 at 7:37 pm
Er, correction. Burke made *no* stop. Erin thinks it was a kick. I don’t think so.
What do y’all think?
April 29th, 2006 at 7:37 pm
WTF I’m not supposed to be watching soccer here! That was my kid’s game this morning.
April 29th, 2006 at 7:37 pm
They’ll allow this though he kicked it… unintentional kick but a kick
April 29th, 2006 at 7:38 pm
Please, somebody figure out a way to stab Joe Beninati in the face over the Internet.
April 29th, 2006 at 7:38 pm
WAVED OFF!
April 29th, 2006 at 7:39 pm
No goal. Can we say break?
April 29th, 2006 at 7:39 pm
No goal?? I don’t know if that was the *right* call… but I’ll take it.
Sens got screwed. Imagine how puffed up the fans will be if the Bolts win by one goal (a man can dream).
April 29th, 2006 at 7:40 pm
Bah, I am typing up the “lucky bounce” in our favor and the Sens score
Oh well
April 29th, 2006 at 7:40 pm
FUCK FUCK FUCK.
The Senators are passing like mofos.
April 29th, 2006 at 7:40 pm
Goal, sens. No skates involved.
April 29th, 2006 at 7:43 pm
Now we see. The Lightning score one now, and things change. Let another in, and things get really tough.
April 29th, 2006 at 7:44 pm
*sigh* One good thing happened today: Jagr’s out of the playoffs.
April 29th, 2006 at 7:44 pm
Party Marty passes like a little bitch.
April 29th, 2006 at 7:45 pm
Our lunch is being eaten at this point. I need to see some pissed-offedness.
April 29th, 2006 at 7:47 pm
Hinch: you want pissed-offedness? Come on over to my place… we gots plenty!
April 29th, 2006 at 7:50 pm
No need, Gary. I have lots of that here. All breakable objects are out of my reach.
April 29th, 2006 at 7:50 pm
1st intermission - Chinese food is here. See y’all in the 2nd.
April 29th, 2006 at 7:52 pm
I’m just really lost. I feel like the team must right now How they’v elooke don ice at least.
April 29th, 2006 at 8:02 pm
Still shaking our head over so many of our forwards being held scoreless this series. Opening another beer . . .
April 29th, 2006 at 8:05 pm
DIdja see the look on the guys face wearin’ the Bolts jersey in the stands? I feel his pain. But at least I am watching the game. The Acid Queen hasn’t been able to watch the last 2 Canes games and has banned herself from watching any more of that series. I’m in for the duration of our run.
April 29th, 2006 at 8:08 pm
Opening my first beer!
I’m lying.
Score, please, Bolts.
April 29th, 2006 at 8:09 pm
R2, R2, it is you, it is you!
April 29th, 2006 at 8:10 pm
Dear Bolts: Thanks!
2-1
April 29th, 2006 at 8:12 pm
Bolts PK.
April 29th, 2006 at 8:14 pm
Nice! Shorthanded shots on goal = effective PK.
April 29th, 2006 at 8:18 pm
Wish Vinny would get that back passing down pat, but I’m liking a lot of what I’m seeing–and drinking–now.
April 29th, 2006 at 8:20 pm
..we all seem to be waiting now
April 29th, 2006 at 8:21 pm
Artoo destroy.
(this is added to get around the duplicate post filter)
April 29th, 2006 at 8:23 pm
Boyle gone. At least for the moment
April 29th, 2006 at 8:24 pm
Aargh, Chara becomes a stickless wonder and we don’t score while we’re down there?!
April 29th, 2006 at 8:25 pm
Yup, Boyle is getting waxed thread pulled thru his face with a sharp piece of metal.
April 29th, 2006 at 8:26 pm
Damn! Boyle is back already?
April 29th, 2006 at 8:27 pm
22 pwnz j00
April 29th, 2006 at 8:30 pm
22 r0×0r!
April 29th, 2006 at 8:31 pm
Hinch = teh 1337
April 29th, 2006 at 8:32 pm
*Huge* trip. Dude must have done a full twist before he even hit the ice.
April 29th, 2006 at 8:33 pm
Feds h00xor. As it were.
PK Lightning.
April 29th, 2006 at 8:34 pm
4-0 Devil Rays in the sixth BTW
April 29th, 2006 at 8:35 pm
Wow. Defensive breakdown (again) and the Senators score (again).
Guys, this is the sux0r!!1!!eleven
April 29th, 2006 at 8:36 pm
Havlat for Conn Smythe
April 29th, 2006 at 8:36 pm
Sens score. We needed that kill.
Now score, Ning. Don’t let this drift away.
OBTW, Go Rays!
April 29th, 2006 at 8:36 pm
Richards’ evil twin, Havlat, again. We have been making him look like a superstar this series.
April 29th, 2006 at 8:37 pm
Anyone seen the Best Buy ad yet that kicks the Leafs while they are down?
http://www.theiceblock.com/hockey/entry/best-buy-kickin-leafs-fans-while-theyre-down/
April 29th, 2006 at 8:39 pm
Marsha, you’d think they’d remember to cover him on the PP after he scored in 4 straight games…
April 29th, 2006 at 8:39 pm
lol!!!omgomfg!!!lol!
Go teh Bol25r funneh!
I spend way too much time online.
April 29th, 2006 at 8:40 pm
Martin, again with a chance…
April 29th, 2006 at 8:40 pm
*That* is why Burke is in net.
April 29th, 2006 at 8:41 pm
Hinch == yes you do.
April 29th, 2006 at 8:42 pm
Richie! Scores!!!!!!!!!!!!
April 29th, 2006 at 8:42 pm
THE RICHMEISTER! Makin’ Copies!
April 29th, 2006 at 8:43 pm
How big was that?
April 29th, 2006 at 8:45 pm
Chara dives, gets the call. That’s just good hockey.
April 29th, 2006 at 8:46 pm
That’s a bullshit call…
(better than no call and limp-dick officiating though.. so I ought to just bite my tongue)
April 29th, 2006 at 8:48 pm
Sorry guys… I seem to be slipping into a food coma of sorts. Nice goal by Richards, though.
April 29th, 2006 at 8:49 pm
What were those signs held up against the plexi at the end of the period? One was about Boyle, and one appeared to say “St. Louis I’m Pregnant” or something like that. WTF? Richie is a stud. Burkie has elastic limbs.
April 29th, 2006 at 8:49 pm
They haven’t been intrusive, the officials. The players haven’t done much to earn calls… There have been a few that have caught my eye but nothing earth shattering that would change the pace of the game or the emotion of the game.
Bolts are down and not out - Torts needs to drive that home. That and “Cover Martin Havlat on the PK!!”
April 29th, 2006 at 8:50 pm
Nothing beats “Leavalier wears pink panties” in Calgary though :p
(Vinny truly has a pink-thing)
April 29th, 2006 at 8:50 pm
Oh, John, some blog I cruised this morning had a spoof ad of Pat Quinn wearing the uniform and saying “Welcome to Tim Horton’s”
April 29th, 2006 at 8:51 pm
The third-period Sens are really, amazingly good.
But I have a feeling.
Will Brad and Vinnie make their Eagles tee-times tommorrow?
Tune in later!
April 29th, 2006 at 8:54 pm
Marsha — LOL. Appropriate
April 29th, 2006 at 8:55 pm
Man, Dave Mishkin almost blew a vein over Brad Richard’s goal. That’s why I like him…he can inject positive possibilities into a bleak situation.
I’m buyin’ it.
April 29th, 2006 at 8:59 pm
Rays blew it in the top half of the 6th but Toby Hall just homered.
5-4 Rays.
April 29th, 2006 at 9:04 pm
Just watching an early April clip of Don Cherry rambling incoherently about the unselfish play of “a French guy, Vincent Lecavalier” getting redder by the minute. Ah, puck drop!
April 29th, 2006 at 9:07 pm
Cherry is a hypocrit, did we have to remind you of that? A homophobic, Europhobic, francophobic hypocrit.
At least we killed off the PP.
April 29th, 2006 at 9:07 pm
Bolts go to the PP now
April 29th, 2006 at 9:08 pm
Aghhh! Shoulda been a penalty shot!
April 29th, 2006 at 9:08 pm
Excuse me, flower play :-/
April 29th, 2006 at 9:10 pm
Awful.
April 29th, 2006 at 9:11 pm
Absolutely awful. Ottawa knows they can’t afford the Lightning a chance to tie.
April 29th, 2006 at 9:13 pm
Ok, so I just saw us dump it down ice when we were *not* making a line change. What is it with our guys going into PK mode at any given moment? How bout that Artoo, though!
April 29th, 2006 at 9:15 pm
Note to all NHL television producers: DO NOT EVER use the coveted Pulitzer-quality close-up camera shots. Ever. If I wanted to see a shot of the back of a defenseman’s helmet during a critical period, I’d but tickets, go to the game, and watch through an empty paper towel tube.
Thanks.
April 29th, 2006 at 9:18 pm
Vinny couldn’t get it all with that back hand. Also tried it too far out
April 29th, 2006 at 9:19 pm
Damn Vinny’s workin hard for us–wish he’d get the fruits of his labors. Yeah Cherry is an idiot but my BC buddy said I had to see that clip.
April 29th, 2006 at 9:24 pm
Burkie Burkie Burkie!
April 29th, 2006 at 9:25 pm
Notice I haven’t mentioned something today. Trying not to jinx things.
April 29th, 2006 at 9:25 pm
Rays/BoSox tied up 5-5.
April 29th, 2006 at 9:29 pm
A few chances here but the Sens defending well. Poor passing choices as well
April 29th, 2006 at 9:29 pm
Looks like the Bolts are going to the PP.
Gary? You fall asleep?
April 29th, 2006 at 9:29 pm
Yeah, Chara off to the box. Let’s hope for a real power play this time around.
April 29th, 2006 at 9:30 pm
PP TBL. Times runnin’ out…but OTH, don’t give the Sens too much time to take the lead.
April 29th, 2006 at 9:34 pm
PP goes null / void. Boyle gets tripped and he retaliates with a trip of his own
April 29th, 2006 at 9:36 pm
strong kill though. Too bad we can’t do this allt he time
April 29th, 2006 at 9:37 pm
Basically asleep. Nice shorthanded pressure by the Bolts, but they only have a minute and a half to work out the kinks and get a goal. Burke has been pretty good.
April 29th, 2006 at 9:37 pm
April 29th, 2006 at 9:39 pm
6 on 4.
April 29th, 2006 at 9:40 pm
Penalty for Ottawa…
But then again they scored on the open net on a 6-on-4 earlier in the series
April 29th, 2006 at 9:41 pm
That’s the season.
April 29th, 2006 at 9:41 pm
Sweet Jesus. Done.
April 29th, 2006 at 9:42 pm
Fucking six on four and they sit around with their thumbs up their asses waiting for a perfect shot when just shoving it up in front may have gone in ugly.
Fitting finale, though… nothing but frustration - everything you’d expect from the Lightning throughout the season.
Such a disappointment.
April 29th, 2006 at 9:43 pm
On the upside, I don’t feel depressed like I did after the Thursday game. I saw a good effort by a team doing their best.
On the down side…well.
April 29th, 2006 at 9:44 pm
Well that’s a wrap, and at least we made ‘em work harder for it this game. Hope all of our boys going down the line shaking hands told Emery how nice it would be to live in Hockey Bay in a beach condo.
Night all.
April 29th, 2006 at 9:45 pm
Nite, Marsha. And thanks.
The necklace is off.
April 29th, 2006 at 9:45 pm
John: Thanks again for hosting the site & the open threads.
Until next season, ladies and gentlemen. *wave*
April 29th, 2006 at 9:46 pm
There’s a lot on the downside. Potential unrealized.
I guess the upside of it all is the bitterness of the off season that’s going to overwhelm some of the guys. Being outplayed, outscored and outclassed as they had this series will light a fire.
Hopefully.
April 29th, 2006 at 9:48 pm
Yup, John, thanks for the space. I had a blast.
April 29th, 2006 at 9:50 pm
Nite, all. And thanks for the season, Lightning.
April 29th, 2006 at 11:34 pm
Lets go out and get some Defensemen and a truly #1 Goalie. Artoo should be playing more next year along with Ranger and Craiger. We need to get deep on the bench. Anyone know about the kid Gerald Coleman? Is he gonna be any good? Thanks to the Bolts for trying - tough season. I’ll be at the games next year - section 301. GO BOLTS
