Overpaying?
I’ve been taking a sabatical from the computer the last few days — startin gyesterday — and I’ve just become aware of Jay Feaster’s latest move:
My very first reaction to this is: “Say What?!” simply because I do not know O’Brien.
But seeing he is a 23 year old with a +5 in 62 games at the NHL, he is obviously a long range acquisition as to a short term fix. I like that aspect of the trade. I already noted a few days ago that the Lightning need to not only strengthen themselves for a playoff run but put themselves in a position to deal with pending free agency from Lightning defensivemen. I believe this move accomplishes that…
But it is certain to disappoint some fans who would like a name brought in — someone who is a polished veteran — not a up-and-comer.

This move could prove to be awinner in two ways, 1)adding the physical presence, such as the case is in Florida with Brian Allen, and added another shot on goal from time to time like Dan Boyle. Either way the lightning didn’t loose anything in the process. The first round pick in a lousy draft pool doesn’t take allot from you. Feaster still needs to pull the trigger on a forward that can put the puck in the net and plays the hard fore-checking style that the Bolts are known for. Since Freddy Modin will sign again for the BJ’s and is not available, Matin Gelinas is probably available from the Panthers. This guy would be a quality 2nd or 3rd line player and also gives you a strong character in the locker room. Now since I just found out that Atlanta has just pulled off an excellent trade for Tkachuck and Zhitnic the Bolts must respond or either start planning for some long vacations and less money to play with next year.
