By chance through a friend I’ve been lured to an image on ModSquadHockey that shows a modified Lightning crest/team logo. It’s much of the same yet it’s very different and follows Jay Feaster’s “modernized” foreshadowing.
I cannot substantiate if this is real or not so take it with a grain of salt but I’d find it easier to believe this is authentic than on other concepts I have seen:

I’m not one to have a gut reaction in opposition of things that are new. Matter of fact, I’ve been wanting a new Lightning logo for several years. But this just isn’t good. I think they should get the words completely out of it. I know it may not be the real deal, but I felt compelled to comment anyway. How do you feel about it?
My feeling on this is, Chris, somewhat of surprise that text remained in the crest logo at all.
I think I like what is done with the bolt — it needed to be a little more “savage” than what is there and there are different drawing methods that convey action better than the current crest does… This new image does that as well.
It’s a mixed feeling on this. I’m greatly surprised over text remaining in the crest… But I like what they did with the bolt.
The logo and unis are in drastic need of updating but this just sucks! I hope to god this is a fake!
These, in a word, suck. The lightning bolt looks OK but they really should have taken the words and the dopey-looking state of Florida completely out of the logo. Less is more.
Fifteen years we wait for a logo change, and this is the best they can do? Very disappointing
What’s up with the circle, if there is going to be a change in uniforms and logos, let’s get rid of the circle. I sure don’t see the need to involve an outline of the state of florida. Now the text is a good idea, but that’s just plaine, immediately looks like the Devil Rays, why not the word “Bolts”.
Because the team isn’t called the Bolts?
It’s nicknamed the Bolts — but how many teams where there team nickname on the jersey’s — sans the Oakland Athletics (A’s)?

Lose the state, lose the circle, lose those horrible type fonts and smack ‘um over the head with that BOLT of lightning. I can see some great looking uniforms (where most people see the logo) with a great looking bolt of lightning!!
Leigh, your disgust is misplaced when you aim it at Jay Feaster. He is not the one in charge of marketing the Tampa Bay Lightning, designing the jersey’s and what not.
And I’m in the minority (among you and Joey) in saying that getting rid of “the Circle” is a poor choice. It’s a CREST guys. It’s not a one-item minimalist zen design of black and white.
Would you suggest the Canadiens ditcht he H part of their crest? Would you suggest the New York Mets ditch the New York skyline from theirs?
Should the Pittsburg Steelers take away those multi colored “things” next to the word STEELERS in their logo?
And Leigh — yes, it’s a BOLT of lightning (the caps were directed at my reply to Joey, I take it)… That doesn’t mean the Tampa Bay Lightning are called the Tampa Bay Bolts. That doesn’t mean there aren’t other professional teams that are nicknamed the BOLTS.
If anything, I’d complain that the Lightning are making changes for change sake. That’s the problem. Everyone will always give different solutions to that problem but the fact is there is nothing wrong with the current crest and logo patches. It’s just harping for harping sake… Which is also the case for speaking ill about these new logos without seeing the players in uniform with this new look.
The new logo looks like something Thunderbug threw up after a long night of eating bad chinese food, and drinking cheap beer.
I will never buy any Lightning gear with the new logo, thus I need to leave and hit the stores and buy some old logo’d items.
