I find that a hilarious comment, Kenny Boy, and from someone publicly defending Jon Gruden too?!
I guess you’re another one of the hopeless cases that believes Gruden deserves 15 years to turn the mess he has made of the franchise around, huh? You want to talk about something I know about? Then lets dish on this…
How many QB’s has Gruden failed to work with? How many players has he cut for the sake of bringing in past-their-prime players who contributed nothing to the Buccaneer franchise?
How many of Jon Gruden’s offensive coaches have been held accountable for the consistent depreciation of the Buccaneer offense and fired after a season?
How many seasons did Gruden’s pet sycophant, Bruce Allen, pass on beefing up the defense in order to go after another offensive lineman that Bill Muir failed to mold into a force? How about some answers, Kenny?
“Stick to something you know something about”. That’s right, I will stick to something I know something about — that Jon Gruden sucks. I’ll stick to what I know something about and say the Bucs have had 2 good seasons under Gruden — the first year was a team built on discipline that was instilled by their previous head coach, the only other one was with thanks to luck that got him a first round bounce-out of the playoffs because his team didn’t deserve to be there in the first place.
Most every NFL follower outside Buc fans knows Jon Gruden’s over rated and his tenure here has been a farce since the Super Bowl and he has no one holding him in check. What’s your excuse for thinking Gruden is all that? He’s a good ole’ southern ball coach?

Wow, John… let me dissect your diatribe. First off, I do not think Gruden needs “15 years” to right the ship as you put it. Actually I believe he needs a winning record this year or at least sniff .500 with major contributions from the young players to survive. If you dug a little deeper instead of simply regurgitating the same old sports talk radio BS, you would realize that while since January 2003 the Bucs have been dissapointing there are solid reasons as to WHY that go beyond the control of the current regime. The Bucs have been severely cap-strapped for the last several years due to the actions and decisions of Rich McKay. Also, remember how many picks were given to Oakland to land Gruden in the first place? How many of those picks would be contributing by now? By being so limited in what they could spend on free agency coupled with their lack of draft picks Gruden and Allen’s margin for error has been very slim. And no, they don’t get a free pass — the signings of Garner, Deese, and Steussie were mistakes that added to the cap problems.
There are many things in your comments that point to you being a very uneducated Bucs fan (or not a fan at all):
You said “How many QB’s has Gruden failed to work with?” Huh?? Are you referring to Simms? Brad Johnson? Please tell me who you mean here. If you are referring to those two, he helped BJ become a Super Bowl champ and a pro-bowler, and Simms did leads us to the playoffs in ’05. Both those QB’s are not the typical west coast QB’s Gruden needs in his system, yet I believe he worked with them well. He also turned Rich Gannon from jouneyman to pro-bowler.

An offensive line isn’t made overnight John. Heck, Sears has played ONE GAME!! If these guys tank in two or three years, like Kenyatta Walker (McKay pick), then talk to me. Speaking of Kenyatta, trading up to get him in ’01 cost the Bucs more draft picks. Thanks Dungy and McKay. And keep this in mind when you talk about missed chances for strengthening the defense: for the last decade the majority of money spent has been on defense. This is a fact. Beefing up the D would have been nice but this was not possible due to the cap situation.
The main problem I have with you post is that you write it after GAME ONE! And they did have some major injuries during the game. If the Bolts get off to a rough start in October while losing Vinny and Marty to injury for a few games, are you going to throw them under the bus as well? All this leads me to believe a) you’re as dumb a football fan as you are a smart hockey writer, or b) you’re one of those Bay area residents that, while you love your Tampa hockey, you’re a fan of another team and have a little bit of “hater” in you when it comes to the Bucs. I’m betting on “b”.
